If you’d like, you can describe them as a rock band with generous helpings of down-tempo and a pop sensibility, with lyrics leaning to the dark side. If you’re not sure what that sounds like, you should give them a listen.
If you’re from the Bay Area, you may have known Stomacher by another name: In Reverent Fear. The band changed its sound and membership enough that it figured, hey, a new moniker wouldn’t be a bad idea. Given that Stomacher was the name of In Reverent Fear’s final album, it wasn’t that far of a stretch.
The five guys in the band–aside from Jarrod (vocals, guitar), there’s Stephen Reinhart (guitar), Jeff Tollefson (bass), Greg Francis (guitar, keyboard, percussion) and John Lazarus (drums)–form a collection of musicians intent on creating–and expanding upon–deep grooves, beautiful melodies and provocative lyrics. They’re all about making music feel good. And trust me when I say that frontman Jarrod Taylor has some of the most beautiful vocal stylings this side of Jeff Buckley.
Their goal, these talented musicians, is to write beautiful music that is just as special to them as it is to anyone who listens. The care that goes into each song is great; for them, the creation process goes something like this: write, rewrite, record, rearrange, rerecord, scrap, repeat…and dazzle. Don’t forget the dazzle.
Stomacher is all about making music feel good. In this crazy industry, they aspire to retain their love of music while finding the success they so greatly deserve. With their intense talent and commitment, this is a band that won’t stay underground for long.
